The market for global Ash handling System is expected to be USD XX billion at the end of the year 2015 and by the end of 2022 it is estimated to reach USDXX billion. The market is expected to grow at a rate of XX%. Ash handling plants are installed to contain the ash generated from factories. In factories where coal is extensively used, generate a lot of residue in the form of ash particles after the combustion of fuel. In a thermal power plant the ash generated can be about 30%-40% of the fuel used. For example in USA alone, more than 100 million tons of ash is generated every year from its thermal power plants. It can be in the form of bed ash, coarse ash and fly ash and contain different abrasive materials based on its material and combustion. These ash are screened, collected and disposed by ash handling systems.

Ash handling systems are used mostly in thermal power plants since this is where maximum ash is generated. Coal based thermal power plants mostly use ash handling plants. Apart from thee, cogeneration plants where heat is used in multiple processes also use ash handling system. Waste to energy plants generate much higher content of ash than regular coal handling plants.   So these plant have to use ash handling plants. Steel plants, Alumina plants where there is huge requirement of heat the resultant ash generated needs to be handled by ash handling plant.

Thermal power plants all over the world use coal as predominant source of energy. Due to its lower cost and wider availability it has been preferred over other means of fuel. The problem associated with coal is that majority of coal used is not of high quality so the energy content of the coal is lower and the ash content is high. This ash once escapes the plants is a source of widespread environmental pollution.   Due to increased awareness for pollution caused by the factories and power plants, there has been demand to clamp down on the level of pollution. This demand has made the installation of ash handling plants in the factory possible. Also once the ash is removed from plant it comes in the form of slurry which is disposed in ash ponds and left to dry. This slurry water then escapes underground and pollutes the water sources. So there is demand to reduce the ash so as to protect the ground water. Since fly ash consists of fine ash particles, so the permeability of the ash is quite low. When discharged into the hooper this ash may create a reverse flow and may not be properly discharged.  Also when adequate air is present this ash behaves as a liquid. It causes excessive flow that turns into flooding and the system may not handle and choke as a result.

The ash handling system consists of several components like, Hooper, feeder, crusher/granular, fluidizing air system, magnetic air separator, conveyor system and screen system. Scraper chain gathers ash from the bottom of the boiler. The conveyor system transfers the ash out of the boiler. The magnetic separator separates the left over metallic compounds from the ash. The screening system collects the ash and separated the non-metallic compounds.   Crusher converts the residue so that they are easy to handle. Based on ash handling the system can be divided into bottom ash handling system, coarse air handling system, air preheat ash handling system. Also based on type of ash the system can be wet or dry ash type.

In every country there exists a number of old thermal power plants. These Older thermal plants built with generations old technology are a major sources of pollution due to insufficient combustion. Currently countries either have to shut this plants or manage its pollution. This is a market for ash handling plants.   Also many governments have implemented environment protection plans where by guidelines for the creation and disposal of wastage is regulated. To comply with this regulations, factories need to employ ash handling plants. When the internal air currents have sufficient strength they can disturb the ash collection and choke the system. Also the ash contains significant amount of abrasive compounds. Due to constant exposure the ash handling system has to face increased pressure of wear and tear.
