Stripe Piezoelectric Actuator is an electromechanical transducer device that uses electrical energy into mechanical energy to move or adjust the control systems. Stripe piezo electric actuators are also known as bender actuators because it bends. The actuator is kept under a resin coating to protect the actuator against electrical faults. Two strips of piezo electric ceramics are joined keeping the direction of polarization same. These actuators can be connected in either unipolar or bipolar connection. The unipolar connection requires +/-200v while bipolar connection requires +/-100v power supply. The actuator is bonded with the vibrator base through either soft clamp or with adhesives. When electric voltage is applied one of the ceramic bends forward and the other backward. This leads to the actuator to bending forward and backward. Due to parallel connection the chances of depolarization of ceramic layers is reduced and thereby the life of the actuator is increased.

Stripe Piezo electric actuators are widely used in advanced research, precision motion control and positioning activities. Stripe Piezo electric actuators are used in multiple domains. The scope of these actuators includes, needle control on textile control and braille printing. In these activities it is required to have precise control of the needle for accurate representation be it textile or paper. Accelerometers, small volume pumping devices and switching devices also use stripe piezo electric actuator. These are used for making or breaking electrical connections in electrical switching devices.

Moreover the stroke length or the distance that an actuator can move is very small in nano meters (nm).   For small movements the use of high voltage is increases the cost for an operation. Accelerometers is a device that respond to static or dynamic forces.   Once these were used in space crafts and airplanes. But the use of these devices has spread to devices in common use. These are widely used in smart phones, laptop hard drives etc. when these devices are about to fall it senses the fall and shuts down the devices. Thus it acts as a safety devices at the time of fall and limits the data loss. The exponential growth of smart phones and spread of computers presents a huge opportunity for stripe piezo electric actuators.
