Press Release

Didecyldimethylammonium Chloride Market to Grow With a Substantial CAGR of 11%

Date : Mar 09, 2023

According to Ameco Research, the worldwide Didecyldimethylammonium Chloride Market revenue to surpass USD 990 Million with CAGR of more than 11% throughout the forecast period

Didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) is an antiseptic with numerous biocide/disinfectant applications. DDAC is quaternary ammonium with a twin chain. It's a cutting-edge, risk-free biocide. It has broad-spectrum activity against gramme positive and gramme negative bacteria, fungicide and mildewcide properties, high tolerance to hard water, tolerance for anionic contaminants, maintains efficacy in the presence of heavy organic soilings like blood and protein, and good surfactant and wetting properties. It has an amine concentration of roughly 1.5 percent. This material produces severe skin burns and eye damage and is dangerous if swallowed, according to the European Union's harmonized classification and labeling (CLP00). Furthermore, this substance is toxic if swallowed, is toxic to marine life with long-term effects, causes severe eye damage, is a flammable liquid and vapor, and may cause drowsiness or dizziness, according to the classification provided by companies to ECHA in REACH registrations.

Growing application of DDAC in disinfectants fuels the market growth

The Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has stated that it will support the licensing of products containing didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) and other quaternary compounds. Given the pandemic situation, they will enable the use of chemicals as active ingredients in disinfection formulations of product categories 3 and 4.

Biocides are chemicals that are designed to kill organisms, particularly bacteria. Biocides are commonly used in medicine and agriculture. They can, however, be utilized for a wide range of purposes. Biocides are classified by the European Union into 22 product kinds, each of which has several subgroups: Disinfectants in Group 1 (type 1, human hygiene; type 2, algaecides and disinfectants not intended for direct application to humans or animals; type 3, food and feed area; type 4, veterinary hygiene; 5, drinking water, and many others).

Antimicrobial pesticides are classified into 12 categories by the US Environmental Protection Agency based on their use patterns: agricultural premises and equipment; commercial, institutional, and industrial premises & equipment; food handling/storage establishments, premises, & equipment; medical premises & equipment; residential and public access premises; human drinking water systems; materials preservatives; antifouling coatings; industrial processes and water.

According to their usage pattern, biocides provide a significant risk of inhalation exposure. However, until reports of infants and pregnant women dying from biocides applied to humidifiers, the issue of inhalation toxicity for low-vapor pressure and non-volatile biocides like didecyldimethylammonium chloride was overlooked. Since 2006, multiple occurrences of interstitial lung infection in children have been documented in Korea, and it has been claimed that humidifier disinfectants are to blame.

Global Didecyldimethylammonium Chloride Market Scope

The global didecyldimethylammonium chloride segmentation includes the type, application, end-use, and geography. The type segment includes 0.5, 0.8, 0.99, and others (0.6 and 0.7). Among them, 0.8 dominated the market with the largest shares in 2020. Disinfectants, preservatives, pesticides, and others are considered in the application segment. Among them, the disinfectants accumulated a substantial amount of share in 2020. Based on end-use, the segmentation comprises pharmaceuticals & cosmetics, oil & gas, timber protection, water treatment, horticulture & household, and others. Pharmaceuticals and cosmetics end-use industries generated the largest revenue in 2020 and are likely to continue this trend in the coming years.

Furthermore, North America, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East & Africa are the regional categorization of the global didecyldimethylammonium chloride market. In 2020, North America is likely to gather a significant amount of share in the coming years due to the surging application of DDAC in disinfectants, and increasing government approvals for DDAC related products. For instance, Quats-containing disinfectants have been approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as effective surface disinfectants. With the emergence of Covid-19, disinfection goods are a vital and primary instrument for reducing virus spread as a matter of public health. On the other hand, the Asia-Pacific region is anticipated to register the highest growth rate in the coming years owing to the rising demand for DDAC in the timber and water treatment industries. Furthermore, the flourishing horticulture sector in the APAC region is also likely to propel the demand during the forecast period 2021 – 2028.

Major Players

The prominent players offered in the report include Yixing Kailida Chemical, Sigma-Aldrich (Merck), Guangzhou Zhonghai Chemical Co., Ltd., Lonza, Normac Chem Co., Ltd., Xiamen XM-Innovation Chemical, Solvay, and Stepan Company.

DDAC is being used in the formulation of disinfectants, cleansers, and sterilants by manufacturers. For instance, Metrex, a global developer of surface disinfectants, released "CaviWipe 2.0" in 2021. SARS-CoV-2 is one of 42 diseases that disinfectant wipes may kill.
