Germanium has many types such as germanium ingot, high-purity GeO2 and germanium tetrachloride etc. Germanium tetrachloride is mainly used in fiber optics industry. So, China is the largest production region. In 2017, China produced about 104.2 tonne, accounting for 65.23% of global total production.

Most of those suppliers are based in China. During them, Yunnan Germanium is the market leader with production share of 25.24%.
During past five years, global consumption varied from 213 tonne to 159.7 tonne in 2017, with a CAGR of -6.94%. Limited by China Environmental pressure, we predict that global demand will increase slightly and global consumption will be 168.6 tonne in 2024.
