Press Release

Hybrid Drive Train Market to Surpass USD 600 Billion by 2030 | CAGR 28%

Date : Mar 21, 2023

Ameco Research Analyst estimated that the global market for Hybrid Drive Trains will rise at a CAGR of more than 28% during the forecast period, with a market size of over USD 600 Billion by 2030.

Although they have largely been employed for rail locomotives, electrical vehicles have a long history of mixing internal combustion and electrical transmission –as in a diesel-electric powertrain. Because the electrical drive transmission directly substitutes the mechanical gearbox rather than being an additional source of motive power, a diesel-electric powertrain does not meet the definition of hybrid. The 'trackless' trolleybus of the 1930s, which generally employed propulsion current carried by wire, is one of the oldest forms of hybrid land vehicle. An internal combustion engine (ICE) was often used in trolleybuses, either to directly power the bus or to generate electricity on its own. The truck was able to maneuver around obstructions and broken overhead transmission lines as a result of this.

In a hybrid powertrain, the vehicle is powered by at least two sources. Internal combustion electric/engine motor hybrids are the most prevalent; however internal combustion engine/hydraulic, internal combustion engine/flywheel, internal combustion engine/pneumatic, and fuel cell/battery electric hybrids are also viable options. The presence of an energy storage device (battery, capacitor, flywheel, hydraulic reservoir, etc.) is common in the hybrid drivetrain, but it is not required.

Market Dynamics

According to a report released by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) - the UNEP, the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Foundation for the Automobile and Society (FIA), as well as the International Transport Forum (ITF), are collaborating to develop and implement the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI), which aims to double road vehicle fuel efficiency.

Medium and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as various forms of non-road equipment, can benefit from hybrid drivetrains. They're also being used in marine purposes, where they're best suitable for vessels with a wide range of power demands, coastal trades, and function within emission control zones.

The availability of charging stations on highway networks is critical to the growth of plug-in hybrid automobiles. The availability of gasoline stations is far greater than that of charging stations, which appears to be a barrier to the growth of the hybrid vehicle industry. Although manufacturers provide charging systems to consumers, they are immovable and would most likely be tied to a home or business. Public charging outlets are scarce, which poses a problem in the event of a low battery emergency.

Global Hybrid Drive Train Market Classification

The hybrid drive train market is divided into four categories: level, type, component, and geography. The level segment can be categorized into mild HEV, full HEV, and PHEV. The component segment is bifurcated into HEV and PHEV. Furthermore, series, parallel, and series-parallel are sub-segments of the type segment.

•    In terms of design, a series hybrid is similar to a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). Instead of driving the wheels directly, the combustion engine propels an electric generator. The generator charges a battery while also powering the vehicle's electric motor.
•    An electric motor and an internal combustion engine (ICE) coupled to a mechanical transmission power a parallel hybrid. The power distribution between the motor and the engine is changed so that both operate as efficiently as possible. In a parallel hybrid, there is no separate generator.
•    The automobile can be powered by a single gasoline engine, a single electric motor, or both energy converters at the same time. The power distribution between the motor and the engine is designed to allow the engine to operate as close to its ideal operating range as possible.

Regional Stance

North America, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East & Africa (MEA) are the regional categorization of the global Hybrid Drive Train market. The presence of significant OEMs is a crucial element that contributes to the growth of the APAC hybrid drive train market, which accounted for a large part of the market in 2021. Japan is one of the APAC countries that contributes to the hybrid drive train market. It is a promising country for the growth of the entire hybrid drive train industry due to the presence of strong players/OEMs. Furthermore, due to expanding government laws and initiatives for low and zero-emission vehicles, the European region is predicted to have the strongest growth rate in the next years. The growth of the regional market will be aided by the expansion of charging infrastructure, advancements in electric vehicles, and improvements in driving range.

Major Players

The top players offered in the report include Aisin Corporation, BAE Systems plc, BorgWarner Inc., Continental AG, Delphi, Denso Corporation, Hofer Powertrain, JATCO Ltd, Magna International Inc., OBRIST Group, PUNCH POWERTRAIN NV, and ZF Friedrichshafen AG (ZF Group).
